What Is An Earlid?

Earlid - n., a flexible and controllable appendage that extends from behind the auricle, allowing the person to cover his or her ear at will, blocking out all sound

And now they exist!

Our prosthetics tests have begun! Ellen Barry, our wonderful earlids creator, has officially cast the first mold. I must say, the prototype earlid look fantastic!

The main goal, besides having them looking amazing, is to have the prosthetic be movable while staying attached to our actor's head. The plan is to have each earlid be a puppet; a crew member will control the appendage to open and close it as required by the script.

Another bonus goal is to give the earlids some transparency to boost their realism. We might add a few details in post special effects, but the majority of the effects will all be practical!

Stay tuned for more prosthetics development updates as the earlids go through further refinement stages!

As a reward for reaching the end of this post, and as a piece of shameless self-promotion, here's the link to another film project I've just released, the fifth installment of an animation series created by Neil Lokken and myself: FishBot. Enjoy!
